The group is the scorecard
One person per group scores, which is how golf already works. They open a link — from the QR code on the start sheet or a short join code — and enter strokes hole by hole on their own phone. There is nothing to download and nobody makes an account.
The link is tied to that group and nothing else. It cannot be used to change another group’s card, which is the difference between a scoring tool and a shared spreadsheet.
The leaderboard is never stale and never wrong
Standings are worked out fresh from the scores that exist right now, not stored and updated. So when the pro shop fixes a hole that was typed wrong, the whole board is right immediately — there is no second copy to go and correct.
Ties share a position, the way a real board does. A player who has not turned in a score yet does not appear at the top of the leaderboard at even par.
The start sheet is paper, because the first tee is
Print a start sheet with every group, their time and a QR code that opens their scorecard. Hand it to the starter. That is the whole handoff, and it works when the parking lot has no signal because the QR code is printed rather than emailed.
What it deliberately does not do
Individual stroke play, gross scores, one course. Not net, not scrambles, not match play, not skins — outside of leagues, where handicaps and two-player teams are supported. Every one of those formats is a second scoring engine, and a tool that does one format correctly is worth more to a starter than one that does six of them approximately.

Do players need an app to enter scores?
